Amadeus, a prominent player in travel technology, has acquired Voxel, a company specializing in electronic invoicing and B2B payment solutions, for €113 million. This strategic move, announced on March 12, aims to enhance Amadeus’ portfolio in the travel industry, providing comprehensive payment solutions across the travel experience.
Voxel, established in 1998 and based in Barcelona, Spain, has a significant global footprint, operating in 100 countries and serving over 50,000 hotels along with 1,000 tour operators and travel companies. The company’s acquisition will see its 200 employees integrate into Amadeus, bringing together a wealth of expertise in payment solutions.
Decius Valmorbida, President of Travel at Amadeus, highlighted the acquisition’s potential to enrich Amadeus’ offerings, emphasizing the importance of seamless, integrated payment systems in enhancing the travel experience. He pointed out that payments are integral at every stage of travel, underlining the goal to make these transactions more efficient and less obtrusive for users.
With Voxel now part of its operations, Amadeus anticipates expanding its payment services for travel sellers and streamlining invoice management processes for tour operators, hotel aggregators, and hotels. This integration is also expected to advance the automation of business travel, encompassing booking, payment, and expense management, thereby improving service delivery to corporate clients.
The acquisition signifies a shared vision between Amadeus and Voxel to accelerate growth and innovation in travel technology. Àngel Garrido, CEO of Voxel, expressed enthusiasm for the merger, anticipating enhanced payment processes and technological advancements for both travel sellers and providers. He underscored the synergy between the two companies’ technologies, teams, and cultural alignment, which he believes will contribute to smoother travel payments and a better-connected journey for customers worldwide.
