When it comes to blazing fast cars, the spotlight is shining bright on electric vehicles. Gone are the days when speed demons were all about gas-guzzling engines. Now, it’s all about the electric powerhouses zooming from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye.
You’ve probably heard of the Rimac Nevera, the Pininfarina Battista, the Tesla Model S Plaid Edition, and the Lucid Air Sapphire—all beasts with lightning-fast acceleration. But here’s a newcomer you might not have heard of yet: the McMurtry Spéirling.
At a recent Silverstone track event, Mat Watson from the Carwows YouTube channel took the electric, rear-wheel drive Spéirling PURE model for a spin. The result? A jaw-dropping zero-to-60 time of just 1.4 seconds, with a zero-to-100 time of 2.63 seconds and a quarter-mile sprint in 7.97 seconds. Talk about a speed demon!
Now, the PURE model is a race-ready edition limited to just 100 units, but fear not thrill-seekers, because McMurtry plans to roll out a street-legal version soon. But be prepared to dig deep into those pockets—the handmade PURE comes with a price tag of £895,000 in the U.K. and roughly US$1 million in the U.S.
McMurtry Automotive, based in England’s picturesque Cotswolds region, is the brainchild of Managing Director Thomas Yates, whose background in Formula 1 speaks volumes about the company’s racing pedigree. With a focus on race-bred technology, McMurtry has been quietly honing its creation at tracks like Castle Combe and Donington Park before making a splash at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2021.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Miller Motorcars, known for handling luxury brands like Ferrari and Rolls-Royce, announced its partnership with McMurtry earlier this year. Evan Cygler, director of special projects at Miller, couldn’t contain his excitement after encountering the McMurtry PURE in England. Miller plans to support these track-only beasts with their own track days at Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park, offering customers an adrenaline-fueled experience.
So, what makes the Spéirling PURE tick? With 1,000 horsepower and 1,033 pound-feet of torque from its electric motors, this beast means business. And those massive turbines? They’re not just for show—they produce over 4,000 pounds of downforce to keep this speed demon glued to the track. Plus, with a relatively small battery pack and a lightweight carbon fiber body, the Spéirling PURE boasts an estimated 300 miles of range and a top speed of around 200 mph.
Sure, the cockpit might be snug, and there’s no room for groceries, but who needs them when you’re blasting through the straights at lightning speed? The McMurtry Spéirling PURE offers the ultimate acceleration experience, and for speed enthusiasts, that’s all that matters.
